We spoke to Ellen Roome, who travelled to the US to protest outside of the Facebook owner Meta – demanding better online protection for children. Her 14-year-old son Jools died in 2022, she believes, after an online challenge that went wrong.

We also spoke to Jessica Smith, the online safety principal at the communications regulator Ofcom.
